The Icon-O-Meter (subject to change)

I am shifting topics slightly and aim to take subjects of my own personal interest and break them down to their essential components step by step; starting from a concrete representation down to its most basic abstract form, which should be able to work as an icon. I will be formatting all of the subjects in the same way using a visual meter or slider of sorts. Presenting everything uniformly like this will emphasize the theme in my work, and if I ever choose to do so, this format gives me the opportunity to turn these into animated gifs showing the transformation from real to semi real to shorthand to abstract.
My inspiration began with a TED Talk by Cristoph Niemann* where he talks about how humans are able to infer information from minimal information. I touched upon this idea last semester with some of my work but I did not pursue the subject any further until now, as I realize the idea can be taken into further depth. It is likely I will not be animating these, but that idea came from an obscure animation I saw of a horse transforming into a dragon a few years ago that I have always been fascinated with.
At some point down the road I may face the problem of running out of subject matter that interests me, and with the Covid-19 pandemic being as prevalent as ever, I cannot as easily go searching for inspiration out in the world. I will have to be always on the lookout for new topics in my own space as well as stockpiling as many ideas as possible. Furthermore, drawing the more realistic stages of subjects will be a challenge for me as my drawing skills are not the best. Nonetheless, I would like to experiment with incorporating photography into this project as well and see if that makes the final outcome better or worse.
